Research at the nexus of human health, aquatic resources, and urban infrastructure

Our research centers on fecal pollution in urban waterways and tributaries to Lake Michigan and how human-associated bacteria can augment the environmental resistome

This lab is part of the Indiana University Northwest Biology Department. We are a teaching-focused, primarily undergraduate university within the Indiana University system. All of the research in my lab is done by a talented and diverse group of undergraduate students!

The Fisher Lab welcomes students from all backgrounds and levels of experience.

Meet our research team and learn what it’s like to do meaningful undergraduate research that directly links to issues within our community.

What are we working on?

Our research projects are all based in the Lake Michigan watershed along the Indiana coast. Our work corresponds to the scientific needs within our community and seeks to improve the health of humans and the environment. Our two main areas of study are fecal pollution from septic systems and antibiotic resistance.
